Beauty is defined as, "the phenomenon of the experience of pleasure through perception of balance and proportion of stimulus." It's almost impossible to express beauty as it is observed by the general population, because each individual defines it differently based on their life experiences, predispositions and biochemistry. Beauty may not be able to be measured, but harmony – one of the most important aspects of physical beauty – can.

The golden ratio, also known as the golden proportion, can be found throughout nature and in some of the world's greatest works of art. It can also be found in the facial structure of most of the people we consider to be beautiful. It has been said that if you draw a rectangle around the face of the Mona Lisa, the ratio of height to width of that rectangle is equal to the golden ratio.

Symmetry is scientifically proven to be attractive to the human eye, but not all facial features contribute equally to the perception of beauty. According to Professor Gordon Patzer's, "The Physical Attractiveness Phenomenon," there are five predominant factors that contribute to physical attractiveness:

Teeth: 76%
Smile: 75%
Lips: 73%
Eyes: 63%
Nose: 58%

Facial aesthetic design is about more than just teeth – it's about all the elements of the face and how they work together to achieve the most beautiful and natural smile.

We don't use the traditional method of smile design because it focuses on creating perfectly symmetrical teeth, which in an asymmetrical frame like the face actually creates a disharmony. Although dentistry is in many ways a science, cosmetic dentistry requires the innovation, creativity and skill of an artist to craft the perfect smile to complement an individual's unique facial features.

It's true that beauty is subjective, but balance is not, and balance is what we are able to create using advanced facial mapping techniques and a thorough understanding of what is perceived as beautiful to the human eye.

Straightening your teeth
At Favero Dental Clinic we offer a wide range of methods to straighten your teeth.

Inman Aligner
This is a removable option suitable when there are only very minor problems which need correction. They are particularly useful after orthodontic relapse. Your dentist can tell you if you are suitable for these aligners.

Conventional Braces
If you have a significant jaw malformation or your teeth bite very badly you may need to get extensive braces which take 2 years or more. If shorter term braces are not an option for you, we do refer you to our specialist orthodontist for this treatment.

Invisalign®: the clear alternative to regular Braces
This is particularly popular among our adult patients in the public eye who do not want the world to know they are wearing braces.

Invisalign® involves wearing a set of customised clear aligners. They allow you to brush as normal and to eat whatever you want during treatment. The average treatment time for this is about a year but can be faster where fewer movements are needed.

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are custom-moulded to fit you. The virtually invisible aligners gradually reposition your teeth into a smile you'll be proud of.

  • • Remove your aligners to eat, brush and floss
  • • Change aligners every two weeks
  • • Your teeth move little by little
  • • Regular progress checks with your dentist
  • • Results often in 9 months to 1 year

Why people like Invisalign®
The convenience and ease of use of the invisible braces have made it the choice for hundreds of thousands of people.

  • • Most people won't notice you're in treatment
  • • Won't disrupt your lifestyle, that's why some of Ireland's top models have chosen invisible braces from Seapoint Clinic for their smile enhancement.

No metal wires or bands to irritate your mouth, and best of all, most people won't notice you are in treatment. Invisalign®, the clear alternative to braces, has been chosen by over 500,000 people who want amazing smiles.

Are there any age limits?
No, there are no age limits! People as old as 60 and 70 are getting braces. People know how important it is to take care of themselves.

What does adult treatment feel like?
Well, the beginning part of the treatment takes a bit of getting used to for adult patients. However, after treatment gets started, things are quite comfortable.

When you have your braces placed your mouth takes some time to get used to something new. This only lasts a few days and after this you'll hardly notice them.

When we use gentle pressure to move your teeth it is completely normal to have a sensation that they are slightly loose. This is because the ligaments that hold your teeth in are being stretched a bit. Don't worry when the braces come off this goes away entirely.

Other than that, treatment will feel the same whether you get treatment when you are in your teens, or whether you get treatment when you are an adult.

Can I eat as normal or will the braces stain after eating?
Invisalign, the clear brace, can be removed for eating and therefore does not tend to stain at all and can be cleaned easily.

Invisible Lingual Braces
If you are looking for braces which are completely invisible, then lingual braces may be the answer for you. These braces are bonded behind the teeth instead of in front of them and as such nobody needs to know you are wearing braces. They can be used for top and bottom teeth and can work even in very crowded mouths.

How do they work?
They work in the same way as normal braces but instead of the braces being visible they are hidden behind the teeth.

Are they more expensive?
Lingual braces are more technically difficult to perform than conventional braces and are only carried out by a few people in the country. The equipment needed is more complex than for conventional braces and so they are slightly more expensive.

What Is A Smile Makeover?
A Smile Makeover is a change in the lower third of a patient's face. By widening the smile and building out the teeth (perhaps lengthening them, adding more anatomy and translucency) using veneers, we can create a more dynamic smile that in some cases slightly fills out the lips and provides the patient with a fuller, more youthful looking appearance. It is similar to a facelift from the nose down – without the scalpel.

Does The Smile Makeover Look Completely Natural?

Yes, your smile makeover will look absolutely natural and undetectable. Your friends will think that you just returned from a vacation looking refreshed. Oftentimes the lips begin to sag as we age and also lose their elasticity. Their primary support comes from the teeth, so widening and lengthening the teeth lends an appearance of youthfulness. Based on the patient's age, skin tone, and gender, we design the teeth, and select color and shape to enhance the appearance from the nose down. The procedure is non-invasive and the result looks natural. For more information about this procedure, please don't hesitate to contact us at 0207 323 1960.

Digital Smile Design

To obtain consistent aesthetic outcomes, the design of dental restorations should be defined as soon as possible.

The importance of gathering diagnostic data from questionnaires and checklists cannot be overlooked; however, much of this information may be lost if it is not transferred adequately to the design of the restorations. The diagnostic data must guide the subsequent treatment phases, integrating all of the patient's need desires, and functional and biologic issues into an aesthetic treatment design.

The DIGITAL SMILE DESIGN(DSD) is a multi-use conceptual tool that can strengthen diagnosis vision, improve communication, and enhance predictability throughout treatment. The DSD allows for careful analysis of the patient's facial and dental characteristics along with any critical factors that may have been overlooked during clinical, photographic, or diagnostic cast-based evaluation procedures.

What Is a Veneer?
A veneer is a thin porcelain shell bonded on top of the natural tooth, approximately half a millimetre in thickness.
The natural tooth requires minimal preparation, often none at all. A crown or cap, covers the entire tooth and reduces the natural tooth to a peg.
Veneers are more conservative in preparation and require less invasive procedures. Veneers are the treatment of choice at The Favero dental clinic whenever possible.
